Palacios, who is undertaking his third term of office after nine years at the head of the Designation of Origin, was unanimously re-elected president by the members at the plenary session held today at the Control Board's headquarters in the Navarrese town of Olite.

David Palacios has been re-elected president of the Regulatory Council of the Denomination of Origin Navarra after holding this position for the past two legislatures for nine years. Palacios remains at the head of the D.O.Navarra after the plenary session held at the Control Board's headquarters in Olite in which he was unanimously appointed by the members who also assume their positions from now on. Thus, the new Plenary The members of the Institution are: Iñaki Sanz Larrea, Ángel Lizarraga Monreal, Serafín Vicente Martínez, Félix Bariáin Zaratiegui, Iñaki Marzo Senosiain and Luis Carlos Urricelqui Elduayen from the Unión de Agricultores y Ganaderos de Navarra (UAGN) and as representatives of the marketing sector, from the Asociación de Bodegas de Navarra (ABN): Javier Basabe Isusi from Bodegas Príncipe de Viana, Julián Chivite López from Bodegas Gran Feudo, Santiago Labari Saragüeta from Bodegas Piedemonte and Beatriz Ochoa Alemán from Bodegas Ochoa. On behalf of the Unión de Cooperativas Agroalimentarias de Navarra: Miguel Bujanda Cirauqui from Bodegas Malón de Echaide and Gonzalo Celayeta Escudero from Bodegas San Martín.

David Palacios is a winegrower, president of the Spanish Conference of Wine Regulatory Councils (CECRV) where he holds the position in the second term and is also vice president of the European Federation of Origin Wines (EFOW) and president of the Navarra Wine Guild. Palacios, who makes a satisfactory balance of the last four years that have been marked by the global pandemic caused by the coronavirus that has been a severe blow to the wine sector. "The past legislature has been very complicated as we faced a situation that had not been experienced before and that seriously shook the wine marketing, both in the domestic market due to the closure of the on-trade and in the export market. Things became very difficult and we had to deal with a totally different scenario. I believe that now we are gradually emerging and recovering sales", explains the President. On the challenges of the future, Palacios comments: "We are at a critical moment in the D.O. Navarra in which we must take the new direction of the Denomination of Origin in this new scenario that is opening up and know how to take advantage of its opportunities." and adds, "This is the mission on which we are going to embark in the coming years. Navarra will once again become a reference".
