The Navarra Denomination of Origin is distinguished by something extraordinary: the richness and variety of its landscapes and climates, which unfold along the little more than 100 kilometers that link the north, near Pamplona, with the south, on the banks of the Ebro.
Navarre offers a unique natural spectacle in Spain: the convergence of three climatic influences - Atlantic, continental and Mediterranean - thanks to the proximity of the Bay of Biscay, the imposing presence of the Pyrenees, and the softness of the Ebro valley.
This melting pot of climates not only defines the character of the region, but also its landscapes and vineyards.
In the more than 9,000 hectares that make up the Designation of Origin, the vineyards find their home in environments as diverse as hillsides, riverbanks, plateaus and plains, giving rise to five distinct production areas: Baja Montaña, Valdizarbe, Tierra Estella, Ribera Alta and Ribera Baja. Each one, with its own identity and terroir, contributes to a rich and vibrant Navarra, where wine is the reflection of a land shaped by centuries of history and nature.
The authenticity of Grenache.
With some of the most northerly vineyards in the country, Navarra's privileged location in the north of Spain gives its wines a unique and unmistakable freshness, transversal in all the elaborations of this Denomination of Origin. Garnacha, the most emblematic variety of the D.O. Navarra, brings authenticity to the territory. It is the common thread that unites all the sub-zones of this Denomination, carrying with it the essence of the region. This variety, present in the region since the 17th and 18th centuries, began to gain prominence at the end of the 19th century thanks to its remarkable resistance to diseases such as powdery mildew. According to a study by EVENA (Estación de Viticultura y Enología de Navarra), the first documented mentions of Garnacha in Navarra date back to 1746. A unique virtue of Garnacha is its ability to reflect the character of the territory where it grows. It is a variety capable of capturing and expressing the differences between the different areas and, particularly in Navarra, it adapts exceptionally well to all the production areas, enhancing its typicity and different personalities.
Navarra, the region of rosé par excellence
When we talk about rosé wines, the Navarra D.O. is the absolute protagonist. It is the origin of this color in Spain and market leader with pride. The rosé wines D.O. Navarra stand out for their freshness and versatilitycharacteristics that make them irresistible. Most of them are made with Garnacha Tinta, using the traditional bleeding method, a seal of differentiation that distinguishes them and raises their quality. With a tradition that backs it up, Navarra not only dominates the production of young rosés; it also leads the way in the creation of aged rosés with ageing capacity, giving rise to elegant and genuine wines that become perfect and surprising gastronomic allies.
Navarra, a journey of transformation. Two decades of revolution!
In the last decades, Navarra D.O. wine has undergone a true revolution that has taken it to a prominent place in the national and international wine scene. Authenticity, historical tradition, innovation and passion are the main ingredients of this metamorphosis, which never ceases to surprise with really interesting wine projects and wineries.
The change began in the 1980s, with the arrival of foreign varieties such as the elegant Chardonnay for whites, and the sophisticated Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot for reds. These new varieties integrated perfectly with the traditional Viura, Tempranillo and the emblematic Garnacha, the true protagonist of the region. This fusion of tradition and innovation opened the door to wines with new expressions and personalities.
In the nineties, a visionary group of winemakers, winemakers, winemakers and winemakers took the reins to change the course of wine D.O. Navarra. They bet on quality, experimentation and a revolutionary approach, balancing modernity and respect for origin and roots. These pioneers brought fresh air, marking the beginning of an oenological movement that is still being written.
