The Navarra Denomination of Origin officially ends the harvest with the cutting of the last bunch of grapes in Olite by the Regional Minister of Rural Development, Itziar Gómez, and the president of the Control Board, David Palacios.

The wineries and winegrowers of the Navarra Designation of Origin have harvested nearly 60 million kilos of grapes, a figure that has been repeated for the second consecutive year. With the last grapes for the "late harvest" wines still to be harvested, the Control Board officially marked the end of the harvest in the region with the cutting of the last bunch of grapes in Olite by the Regional Minister of Rural Development, Itziar Gómez, and the president of the DO Navarra, David Palacios.

Thus ends a harvest that began around August 18 in towns in the Ribera Baja and Alta areas of the Designation of Origin. This harvest has marked a milestone and is characterized by being the earliest in the history of Navarra because from the beginning it has been one week ahead of an average campaign in the region. It is also defined by the fact that the Garnacha variety has recovered its usual quantity compared to Tempranillo, which arrived more depleted. The absence of rainfall has marked this harvest, which has been carried out in good conditions to harvest grapes in perfect condition for the production of Navarra Designation of Origin wines. This situation has meant that 85 wineries and 1,750 growers have harvested the grapes from 10,000 hectares of vineyards in a staggered manner and at the time they considered most appropriate.

"We must highlight the quality of the grapes that have entered our wineries because we have had magnificent weather for the harvest. We are sure that we will have the best wines to face the difficult situation of the wine market."The president of the Regulatory Council of the D.O. Navarra, David Palacios, emphasized.

The Councilor for Rural Development and Environment, Itziar Gómez, has sent a letter to the "Recognition of the good work of winegrowers, winemakers and wineries in a sector as socioeconomically important for Navarra as the wine industry"..

Likewise, the Councilor wanted to point out that "Today, as we celebrate the World Day against Climate Change, we must remember that we have to continue working on measures to adapt to the new climate reality. The Nadapta project in the field of agriculture is going to allow us to be more resilient with adaptation measures in crops to reduce vulnerability and exposure to the impacts of climate change in the agricultural sector."
