German professionals visit D.O. Navarra

Oct 31, 2024

A group of German buyers has traveled to Navarra to tour the region and deepen their knowledge of the Navarra Denomination of Origin in an action organized by the Control Board.

During these days, the D.O. Navarra has received the visit of a group of buyers from Germany who have had the opportunity to meet and taste about twenty wineries participating in the action, specifically Bodegas Marqués de Montecierzo, Bodega Inurrieta, Bodegas Príncipe de Viana, Bodegas Marco Real, Bodegas Ochoa, Bodegas Máximo Abete, Amatria Vinos y Viñedos, Bodegas San Martín, Bodegas Escudero - Hacienda Logos, Bodega Otazu, Señorío de Sarría, Bodegas Manzanos - Campanas, Pagos de Obanos, Bodega Nekeas, Aroa Bodegas, Bodega Castillo de Monjardín and Bodega Pago de Larrainzar.

This trip coincided with one of the most interesting times of the year in the wineries, the grape harvest, and the professionals had the opportunity to taste from the tanks and listen to the fermentation of the wines in the barrels. It is worth mentioning the widespread interest in the wines made with Grenache in all its expressions (whites, rosés and reds), the whites from Chardonnay that have a well known tradition in the region, the rosés and the elegant coupage made with varieties such as Tempranillo, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and/or Syrah.

After their visit, the international buyers agreed that the freshness of Navarra wines is a differentiating and outstanding value that is not found in other regions of Spain. They also expressed that the profile of the wines is highly attractive to consumers in their country as it is aligned with market demand and current consumer preferences for fresh, easy-to-drink quality wines.

Germany occupies the first position in the ranking of the markets to which the Navarra Denomination of Origin directs its exports. Last year, nearly 1,400,000 liters of D.O. Navarra wine were marketed, of which more than half were red and rosé wines.

"Germany is our most important export destination. It is a large and stable market, but also very mature and with great competition. Therefore, it is essential to make a constant effort and attract buyers with an interesting profile to deepen their knowledge of our wines. The export business is key and in this reverse mission we have had the opportunity to strengthen our brand and expand the international trade relations of our wineries"., says David Palacios, president of the Regulatory Council of the D.O. Navarra.

With this activity, the Control Board of the D.O. Navarra concludes this year's promotional activities in Germany, after having sponsored the prestigious "Chef of the Year" event in May. In addition to the presence of the wineries and their products, the renowned expert David Schwarzwälder gave two monographic tastings of the region.

The implementation of this international promotion action was made possible thanks to CMO aid for actions and programs for information and promotion of wine products in third countries.4% are white.
