Navarre en route through Belgium and the Netherlands

Nov 7, 2024

The Navarra Designation of Origin lands in Brussels and Amsterdam together with a group of wineries to expand its international trade relations with strategic markets.

This week, the Control Board of the D.O. Navarra has traveled to Belgium and the Netherlands together with the wineries: Amatria Vinos y Viñedos, Bodegas Manzanos, Bodegas Marco Real, Bodegas San Martín, Finca Albret, Pago de Larrainzar, Señorío de Sarría, Ubeta and Viña Zorzal.

All of them have participated in two international promotional activities in the capitals of both countries to promote their wines and the richness of Navarra as one of the most important wine regions in Spain.

Both events were aimed at the specialized public and were attended by importers, buyers, prescribers, sommeliers, specialized press and other professionals from the sector.

Attendees in both cities have deepened their knowledge of the identity and differentiating features of the Navarra Designation of Origin through a master tasting led by Vicky Corbeels, a renowned expert and communicator in the world of wine in both countries. After the tastings, the program of this event for professionals was completed with a cellar lounge at each of the events where representatives of the different participating wine projects had the opportunity to explain first-hand their history and philosophy and to taste wines from their entire range of products.

The Netherlands is the third most important exporting country for the Navarra Denomination of Origin with 818,472 liters sold. Spain is quite relevant as the fourth exporter for the country. On the other hand, the marketing statistics of the D.O. Navarra in Belgium show a slight upward trend in recent years with a total of 146,981 liters marketed.

"The Benelux area is a traditional market for D.O. Navarra in which we must continue to show all our richness and potential to continue to increase sales. In 2023, we managed to increase trade in all three countries, which is an indicator that the product is liked and works. The wine sector is going through a complex moment at the international level. Therefore, it is crucial to carry out actions like this to continue strengthening our brand and facilitate new international trade opportunities for wineries.", comments David Palacios, president of the Regulatory Council of the D.O. Navarra.

With this trip, Navarra concludes the actions included in its international promotion plan for this year, having worked and executed missions in other key countries such as the United States, the United Kingdom, Japan and Germany.

In addition, at the end of November, Navarre will once again receive the visit of Beth Willard, recognized expert in the world of wine, contributor to Tim Atkin and writer of her prestigious reports on wine regions, as well as co-president of the Decanter World Wine Awards and contributor to the specialized magazine Decanter.
