From the Vine and Wine" Awards

Jan 2, 2019

The Wine Guild of Navarra awards the prizes of its literary contest in its narrative and poetry categories.

The Sevillian writer José Antonio Ramírez Lozano (Badajoz, 1950) has won the narrative prize with The angel of wine y Manuel Alonso Matellán (Alcorcón, 1975) has won the same award in the poetry category with the poem Gazapo.

The angel of wine tells the story of a parish priest from La Mancha who raises wine, inseparable from bread, to a sacred category for both himself and his parishioners. When the priest's faculties diminish due to age, an angel takes charge of transferring the wine from a tavern to the parish. In the story, with touches of fantasy and a precise, suggestive and at times ironic diction, one can perceive the conceptual and stylistic aromas of traditional narrative.

In the intimate poem Gazapo, simple and crystalline style, highly effectivethe beloved woman is recreated in the present and especially in her childhood, intimately linked to the vineyard and the grape harvest, an evocation that increases the man's happiness.

In this edition, the jury recognized the high level of the works presented and was formed by Javier Corcín, María Dolores Eraso, Pedro Izuriaga, José Ortega, Alfonso Pascal, Tomás Yerro (president) and María Amatriain (secretary).

The awards ceremony took place at the Palacio de los Reyes de Navarra, in Olite (Navarra).
