Grape harvesting is being generalized across all areas of the D.O. Navarra wine region. The quality of the fruit is excellent, and initial quantity expectations are being met.
As of today, white and red grapes are being harvested from all areas of the Navarra Denomination of Origin: Tierra Estella, Valdizarbe, Baja Montaña, Ribera Alta, and Ribera Baja. Thus, the harvest reaches the 10,017 hectares of vineyards composed of the following varieties: the white ones are Chardonnay, Viura, Garnacha Blanca, Moscatel de Grano Menudo, and Sauvignon Blanc, and the red ones are Tempranillo, Garnacha, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Graciano, Mazuelo, Pinot Noir, and Syrah.
The harvest began in late August in the Ribera Alta and Baja areas, south of the Chartered Community, with white grape varieties: Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, and Muscat of Small Grapes. After the initial rains at the beginning of the harvest, the weather stabilized, and the arrival of the northerly wind was also very positive. The wide thermal oscillation between day and night and the "cierzo" (northerly wind) have promoted excellent berry development and a superb end to ripening. We are very happy with the development of the harvest. As of today, according to information on file with the Regulatory Council of the D.O. Navarra, nearly 14 million kilos of grapes have entered the wineries' hoppers. More than 80% correspond to Ribera Alta and Baja, which are the earliest zones for grape harvesting as they are located in the southernmost areas of the region. Harvesting then progresses to the higher, more northern vineyards. With these grapes, D.O. Navarra wineries will produce the red, rosé, and white wines of the 2021 vintage.
