D.O. wine day

May 13, 2023

On Saturday, May 13, we invite you to come to Cirauqui (Navarra) to celebrate a toast that highlights and makes visible the values behind wines with Designation of Origin.

The toast will be collective with other toasts celebrated in other 33 Appellations of Origin at the same time. In addition to toasting the wines with D.O. and tasting a Navarra wine, we will enjoy a pincho of D.O. Roncal Cheese.

WINE APPELLATIONS OF ORIGIN WILL BE CLAIMED AS THE COLLECTIVE HERITAGE OF RURAL AREAS 

The D.O. Wine Day will celebrate its seventh edition this year under the slogan "Appellations of origin, collective heritage", with the aim of vindicating that a D.O. shapes and preserves a heritage, formed by people, product and territory. Behind the people, vocation, know-how and passion. Behind the product, the fruit of a land and knowledge accumulated over decades, which generates income that stays in the area and boosts its economy. And behind the territory, a landscape and unique natural and historical conditions for grape production and winemaking.

Enjoyment and vindication, in equal parts, is the formula used in the celebration of the D.O. Wine Day, collective action that, since it was born in 2017, at the initiative of the Spanish Conference of Wine Regulatory Councils (CECRV, the organization that represents the wine appellations of origin), has a permanent aspiration: to sow the seed for a Wine Day to be officially declared in our country and thus achieve that this sector has, annually, a date with which to make visible to society what it means and what wine brings to rural areas, to its people and to the whole country. It is, moreover, a claim supported by a non-legislative proposition approved in the Congress of Deputies in 2017, which urges the Government to declare Wine Day. This proposal was presented at the proposal of CECRV and achieved the majority support of the parliamentary groups.
