The Regulatory Council of the D.O. Navarra organizes the professional day "Blanca de Navarra" on February 5 at the Hotel Don Carlos Restaurant in Huarte, which will offer a workshop and tasting of wines and white grape varieties and a show of white wines from 32 wineries.
This is an initiative that aims to highlight the value of white wines from the Navara Designation of Origin among professionals in the hotel and catering industry. With this objective, on February 5, the Hotel Don Carlos Restaurant in Huarte will host the celebration of a workshop and tasting on enotechnics of white wines and white grape varieties D.O. Navarra, which will be given by the winemaker, Pilar García-Granero. In it, the attendees will enjoy 14 wines that will show the Navarrese mastery in the elaboration of white wines and will propose a journey through the tradition and trends of the appellation of origin. This will be followed by the first edition of the white wine lounge of 32 wineries: Alconde, Viñedos de Calidad, Alzania, Aroa, Asensio, Campos de Enanzo, Corellanas, Dominio Lasierpe, Emilio Valerio, Finca Albret, Gran Feudo, Inurrieta, Irache, Liédena, Malón de Echaide, Marco Real, Marqués de Montecierzo, Máximo Abete, Nekeas, Ochoa, Olimpia, Pago de Cirsus, Príncipe de Viana, Quaderna Vía, San Martín, Tandem, Unsi, Valcarlos, Valdelares, Viña Aliaga, Viña Valdorba and Unsi.
The D.O. Navarra traditionally produces its white wines with six grape varietiesThe main grapes are Chardonnay, Viura, Sauvignon Blanc, Garnacha Blanca, Malvasía and Moscatel de Grano Menudo. With them, young and barrel-fermented, dry and sweet wines are produced. And it has been doing so for a long time. The first plot of white grapes referenced in the records of the Control Board dates back to 1907, in the town of Olite and is Viura. Today, 10% of the vineyard of the D.O. Navarra is destined to white varieties. In total, in 2017 there are 1,155 hectares, which represents an increase of 4% of surface area, compared to the previous year. Positive figures that are also manifested in the commercialization of the white wines D.O. Navarra. From January to November 2017 sales have increased more than 3% following the upward trend of recent years. An increase starred by the domestic market that claims every day more and more this type of wines. "Blanca de Navarra is an event with which our appellation of origin wants to vindicate its white wines, which are so successful both inside and outside our borders. This is demonstrated by the activity offered by the professional show with the largest number of D.O. Navarra wineries that we have ever held."The president of the Regulatory Council of the D.O.
