A group of buyers and specialized journalists have traveled from the United Kingdom to visit the region during these days and get to know the Navarra Appellation of Origin in an action organized by the Control Board.
During these days, the Navarra Designation of Origin has been visited by a group of professionals from the United Kingdom who have toured the wine map of the region through the following wineries participating in the action: Aroa Bodegas, Bodega de Sada, Bodega Inurrieta, Bodega Pago de Cirsus, Bodegas Alconde, Bodegas Castillo de Monjardín, Bodegas Caudalía, Bodegas Irache, Bodegas Manzanos - Campanas, Bodegas Marco Real, Bodegas Marqués de Montecierzo, Bodegas Ochoa, Bodegas Pago de Larrainzar, Bodegas Pagos de Araiz, Bodegas Príncipe de Viana, Bodegas San Martín, Bodegas Valcarlos, Bodegas y Viñedos Quaderna Vía, Hacienda Logos (Bodegas Escudero), Nekeas, Señorío de Sarría and Tandem.
The professionals who have coincided with one of the most striking moments of the vineyard cycle, the grape harvest, have valued very positively the action organized by the Regulatory Council of the D.O. Navarra. In particular, they were particularly interested in the wines made with Grenache in all its expressions (whites, rosés and reds), the whites from Chardonnay that have a well known tradition in the region, the rosés and the elegant coupage made with varieties such as Tempranillo, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and/or Syrah. After their visit, all the participants in this international mission agree that the cross-cutting freshness in all the DO Navarra wines they have had the opportunity to taste is a differentiating and outstanding value that is not found in other regions of Spain. Likewise, they expressed that the profile of the elaborations is extremely attractive for the palate of consumers in their country.
United Kingdom ranks second in the ranking of the world's most important markets. to which the Navarra Denomination of Origin directs its exports. Last year more than 835,000 liters of D.O. Navarra wine were marketed, of which more than half were reds and rosés.
"The United Kingdom is on the podium of the main importing countries of Navarra. It has long been an important market for our wines, which are appreciated by its consumers. With this action we wanted them to get to know us better, to walk through our vineyards and soak up our identity"., says David Palacios, president of the Regulatory Council of the D.O. Navarra.
According to data from the Spanish Wine Market Observatory report, the UK spent more than ever on Spanish wine in 2023, with 356 million pounds (+8%), at the highest price in its history. It imported a total of 1,233 million liters of wine and closed 2023 as the world's second largest wine importer, after the United States in value and Germany in volume. By country of origin, Spain broke records in value, at its highest price ever. It also grew in volume.
The Control Board of the D.O. Navarra continues to be immersed in its promotional activities aimed at the international market and is currently carrying out a reverse trade mission with professional buyers from Germany.
This international promotion action was made possible thanks to CMO aid for actions and programs for information and promotion of wine products in third countries.
