The Navarra Designation of Origin route in Germany began on Monday in Berlin with the celebration of a wine fair attended by numerous professionals from the wine sector, including specifiers, buyers and sommeliers. The event began with a master class on DO Navarra given by the renowned sommelier, Christine Scharrer, who presented an interesting tour of the region through the wines of the participating wineries, which were received with great satisfaction by those attending the tasting. In Scharrer's words: "Navarra wines are very interesting and attractive to the German palate.". The following day, Frankfurt took the baton and hosted an event also aimed at the professional public, which highly appreciated the white, rosé and red wines they had the opportunity to taste. "Germany is one of the main destination markets for the export of wines from our Denomination of Origin and we have reinforced our efforts to make Navarra better known every day", says the manager of the Regulatory Council of the D.O. Navarra, Elena Arraiza.

Last year nearly two million liters of D.O. Navarra wine were sold in Germany. This figure represented an increase of more than 19% over the previous year and placed the German country as the main market in terms of sales volume of the Navarra Designation of Origin abroad, ahead of China and the United Kingdom. In 2021, the quotas reached in 2019, before the declaration of the pandemic caused by covid-19, were also surpassed.

The promotional strategy planned by the Control Board in Germany will be completed in October with the visit to the Navarra Designation of Origin of a group of professionals who will tour the region to get to know the wineries, their wines and protagonists first hand. After a reception at the headquarters in Olite, they will take the pulse of the appellation through the wineries participating in the campaign for four days.
