The Constable's Palace in Pamplona was the setting for the honoree event, where the accreditation diplomas were presented to the five wineries producing the wines that make up the Selection of D.O. Navarra Wines 2021.
The diplomas have been awarded to the following categories: Navarra White Wine: Otazu Chardonnay 2020 from Otazu WineryNavarra Rosé Wine: Pagos de Araiz Rosado 2020 from Bodega Pagos de AraizNavarra Red Wine: Beramendi Crianza Tempranillo 2016 Beramendi WineryAlbret La Loma 2019 Garnacha Red Albret Estate and Sweet White Wine Navarra: Valdelares Moscatel 2020 from Bodegas y Viñas ValdelaresJorge Cárdenas, export director of Bodega Otazu, Juan Glaría, technical director of Bodega Pagos de Araiz, MªLuisa Janices, manager of Bodegas Beramendi, Alfonso Garcés, commercial director of Finca Albret, and Íñigo Urdíain, commercial and partner owner of Bodegas y Viñas Valdelares, collected their accreditations and a wine rack created by designer Iosu Rada as a gift. The event, held behind closed doors and broadcast live on the Vinos Navarra YouTube channel, took place at the Palacio del Condestable in Pamplona.
At its celebration, David Palacios, president of the Regulatory Council of the D.O. Navarra, recognized the selected wineries: "Today we highlight once again the good work you are doing to position our Navarra Designation of Origin as one of the leading ones in the countryand in his speech he called attention to public administrations:so that today more than ever, they show their firm support for the sector that is suffering greatly from the blows of the consequences of the pandemic caused by COVID-19 The closing of the ceremony was handled by the head of the Quality Agri-food Product Promotion Office of the Government of Navarre, Natividad Izquierdo, who congratulated the wineries and announced: " This year, a significant push will be made in promoting quality agri-food products. On one hand, this will involve supporting each regulatory council in promotional activities with co-financed aid from the European Union. On the other hand, there will be promotion of the Reyno Gourmet brand, which brings together the various quality agri-food products from Navarra.".
The Navarra D.O. Wines Selection 2021 was chosen after a blind tasting conducted by a panel of wine industry professionals. The jury analyzed 115 samples that were voluntarily submitted by over 40 wineries. From now on, these wines will be used for promotional activities by the Regulatory Council that require their presence.
