The Navarra Denomination of Origin boasts its "Born to please" wines at the "Koch des Jahres" (Chef of the Year) event held recently at the Allianz Arena in Munich.

The most famous soccer stadium in Germany and home of F. C. Bayern Munich, has hosted the presentation of the rosé and red Garnacha wines of the D.O. Navarra in the German country. This region has been the protagonist of its sector in the gourmet event "Chef of the Year" and the sponsor of the semifinals.

Under the slogan "Born to please", Bodegas Castillo de Monjardín, Bodega Inurrieta, Bodegas Príncipe de Viana, Bodegas Manzanos and Bodega de Sarría presented their wines during two days of programmed activities and a wine show organized exclusively for Navarra. The success of participation in the tastings, kitchen parties (competition parties) and exhibition area, has shown the interest of the German professional public in Navarra Denomination of Origin wines.

The VIP area of the Allianz Arena vibrated to the sound of the freshness of Garnacha rosés and reds, an emblematic variety of the region, while the chefs participating in the gastronomic competition fought to reach the final. The event brought together a large part of the world of gastronomy in Germany, with more than four hundred invited professionals who acted as jurors in the tasting of the dishes, also tasting the Navarra D.O. wines that harmonized the dishes served by the participating chefs. Likewise, the promotional action of the Navarra Designation of Origin included a wine show designed for the more than five hundred professional visitors in attendance; a press conference for the specialized media to spread knowledge of the wines of this region and two masterclass tastings given by the sommelier and journalist specialized in Spanish wines, David Schwarzwälder.

Schwarzwälder, one of Germany's leading experts on Spanish wines, introduced the guests to the richness and quality of D.O. Navarra wines and presented the characteristic features of their different elaborations. "Grenache is experiencing a renaissance. The many small, family-owned wineries with a long tradition of making high quality wines are now attracting a lot of attention. After the previous generation opted for other grape varieties, young winemakers are returning to their roots and growing more and more Garnacha. This grape variety needs less water, defies climate change better and perfectly reflects the terroir of Navarra.", said expert David Schwarzwälder during the conference.

For her part, Elena Arraiza, manager of the Regulatory Council of the D.O. Navarra, said "Germany is a strategic and essential market for Navarra. Therefore, it is essential to carry out this type of actions at the destination. We must be present where the professionals of the sector are and we have to relate our brand with the best of gastronomy, a fundamental consumer partner for our products. We highlight the quality of the visitors of this action and the media repercussion for D.O. Navarra wines, which is key for their future commercialization".

The D.O. Navarra wine region covers an area of 9,400 hectares and is located in the north of Spain. This Denomination of Origin is divided into five production areas: Ribera Alta, Tierra Estella, Valdizarbe, Baja Montaña and Ribera Baja, all of them with unique terroirs and due to different climatic conditions and soil characteristics. Navarra is the leader in the national rosé wine market with 30% of the market share and its most representative and emblematic variety is Garnacha.

The Navarra D.O. wines stand out for the transverse freshness in all their elaborations due to their privileged location in the north of the Iberian Peninsula.

This international promotion action has been made possible thanks to the collaboration of the Government of Navarra through the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development.

This action is financed by the European Union.
