Whites captivate the hotel and catering industry

34 wineries of the D.O. Navarra presented their innovations in the production of white wines to professionals of the region at the "Blanca de Navarra" conference held at the Hotel Don Carlos Restaurant in Huarte.  

The day "Blanca de Navarra" captured the attention of numerous hotel, catering and distribution professionals at the Hotel Don Carlos Restaurant in Huarte. The event organized by the Regulatory Council of the DO Navarra included a technical tasting workshop of white wines led by winemaker Pilar García-Granero in which the main white grape varieties of the DO Navarra were explained: Chardonnay, Viura, Garnacha Blanca, Moscatel de Grano Menudo, Sauvignon Blanc and Malvasía through 12 wines that offered a tour of the different options offered in the region.

Subsequently, a hall opened its doors, in which the following participated 34 wineries making it the largest exhibition of Navarra white wines held by the Control Board. The attending wineries offered their novelties: Alconde, Alex Viñedos de Calidad, Alzania, Aroa, Asensio, Campos de Enanzo, Castillo de Enériz, Castillo de Monjardin, Corellanas, Dominio Lasierpe, Emilio Valerio, Finca Albret, Gran Feudo, Inurrieta, Irache, Liédena, Malón de Echaide, Manzanos-Campanas, Marco Real, Marqués de Montecierzo, Máximo Abete, Nekeas, Ochoa, Olimpia, Pago de Cirsus, Príncipe de Viana, Quaderna Vía, San Martín, Tandem, Valcarlos, Valdelares, Viña Aliaga, Viña Valdorba and Unsi.

In the D.O. Navarra young and barrel-fermented, dry and sweet wines are produced. And they have existed since time immemorial, thanks to the know-how of winegrowers and winemakers. The first plot of white grapes referenced in the records of the Control Board dates back to 1907, in the town of Olite and is Viura. Today, 10% of the vineyard of the D.O. Navarra is destined to white varieties. In total, 1,155 hectares are planted in 2017, an increase of 4% of surface area, compared to the previous year. Positive figures that are also evident in the marketing of D.O. Navarra white wines. In 2017, 4,583,282 liters of white wine were sold so sales increased by 3.10% over the previous year. The increase was led by the domestic market, where Navarra white wines are increasingly in demand. "Our goal is that in the hospitality industry, customers value the high quality and request Navarra white wines more and more and that in the bars of our land the choice is D.O.
