The Denomination of Origin Navarra The new harvest begins fifteen days later than in the previous campaign, which was a historic milestone because it was brought forward. Thus, the harvest returns to the region at the usual time in which it has occurred in recent decades with a slight delay of five days. Therefore, the Navarra D.O. is experiencing a traditional harvesting which is expected to harvest around 75 million kilograms of grapes. white (Chardonnay, Viura, Garnacha Blanca, Malvasía, Sauvignon Blanc and Moscatel de Grano Menudo) and ink (Tempranillo, Garnacha, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Graciano, Mazuelo, Pinot Noir and Syrah), according to data obtained by the Viticulture and Oenology section of the Agricultural Holdings and Agri-Food Promotion Service of the Government of Navarra. After an extremely dry autumn and early winter, the trend changed in late autumn and spring with abundant rainfall. This marked the slight delay when bud break occurred in the vineyard. "It has been a year in which the work carried out in the field has been crucial to defend the harvest against the adverse weather conditions that occurred in spring and summer. The professionalism of our grape growers has been fundamental.David Palacios, president of the D.O. Navarra Control Board, commented. In fact, the beginning of the summer was also rainy, with pockets of occasional storms and rising temperatures that caused the recovery of part of the slight delay in the vegetative cycle of the vineyard. August accompanied the end of grape ripening with no rainfall and dry, hot weather. These are desirable conditions for these months of harvesting in the Navarra D.O., which began this week in the area of the Lower RiberaThe main grape varieties harvested were Chardonnay and Moscatel de Grano Menudo, specifically, Corella and Cadreita.
