 Tim Atkin MW praises Navarra with excellent ratings

The latest Tim Atkin MW report, prepared by Spanish wine expert Beth Willard, once again puts the spotlight on Navarra, highlighting it as one of the most interesting wine regions in Spain. This prestigious publication recognizes the quality of the wines of the Navarra Denomination of Origin, with high scores claiming its prestige at a global level. 

May 13, 2025, Olite. - "It is no secret that, in my opinion, Navarra is one of the most interesting wine regions in Spain and internationally. In Navarra we find some of the best garnachas in the world, magnificent blends and spectacular rosés, the diversity of this region never ceases to amaze." These are the words that open the latest report published by Tim Atkin MW's specialized wine press. These dossiers are a reference to know closely the most important wine regions of the world and on this occasion, Beth Willard, a taster of international prestige and collaborator of the medium, has once again put the focus on Navarra and signs its edition, after spending a week traveling through the region and tasting up to three hundred thirty-five wines from more than fifty producers. 

Rosés from the Navarra appellation are especially praised in the report. Willard notes that he has tasted more excellent rosés than ever before, made by producers exploring innovative styles ranging from fresh wines fermented in stainless steel to more complex ones aged in amphorae, foudres or large barrels. This richness, ranging from pale, delicate rosés to the more traditional vibrant "strawberry-red" versions, consolidates Navarra as a benchmark in rosé winemaking. Thus, Navarra leads the new era of Spanish rosés of great quality and complexity, yet to be discovered outside Spain. The expert also highlights with excitement the tendency of Navarra D.O. wineries to focus on single vineyards, specific varieties and sub-zones, an approach that results in unique and singular wines. According to Willard, this attention to terroir and vineyard, combined with innovative winemaking techniques, allows D.O. Navarra wines to express their true character.

  • Red Wine of the Year: Golerga 2023 from Viña Zorzal Wines. 
  • Sweet Wine of the Year: Chivite Late Harvest Collection 125 2022. 
  • White Wine Discovery of the Year: Larrocha 2024 of Bodegas Amatria. 
  • Rosé Wine Discovery of the Year: Alzania Rosé 2024 of Bodegas Alzania.
