Navarre on the road to China

The Appellation of Origin participates with a group of wineries in the sixth edition of the Great Wines of Spain Show, which will be held from October 14 to 18 in the cities of Beijing, Shanghai and Shenzhen.       

Next week, the Regulatory Council of the D.O. Navarra will travel to China together with the wineries: Bodegas Marco Real, Bodegas Ochoa, Bodegas Logos, Bodegas Castillo de Monjardín, Bodegas Nekeas, Bodegas La Casa de Lúculo, Bodega Inurrieta, Bodegas Marqués de Montecierzo and Bodegas Pagos de Aráiz.. All of them are participating in the celebration of the sixth edition of an important event in the wine sector of the country, the Great Wines of Spain Show which will take place on October 14 in Beijing, on October 16 in Shanghai and on October 18 in Shenzhen. The event is aimed at the professional public and participation is conditional on the winery presenting at least one wine rated with 90 or more points awarded by a prestigious critic or in relevant international competitions.

The forecasts The growth prospects for the wine market in China are very promising for the next two decades, according to experts. For this reason and the current marketing behavior, the Asian giant is in the sights of the most important world operators. However, although China is among the top five wine consuming countries, the world supply is very wide and competition is increasing. Spanish wines have seen their exports reduced in volume but are being sold at the highest price in their history, according to the report prepared by the Spanish Wine Market Observatory (OEMV).

The exports from the Navarra Designation of Origin to China were two and a half million liters of wine in 2018, almost entirely red, but with a large increase in rosé. In the current year, only between January and August more than two and a half million liters have been sold, which represents an increase of about 33% compared to the same period last year. Sales starring mainly reds. "China has become the main destination for our wines in the international market, replacing traditional European countries.
