A group of professionals from the cities of Bogotá and Medellín are touring the Designated Origin in an action organized by the Regulatory Council to attract buyers to the region.
The Denomination of Origin Navarra has been the focus of a visit by a group of Colombian professionals who toured the region last week to learn about the characteristics that define the wines produced in the area. The activity was organized by the Regulatory Council and the following wineries participated: Bodegas Piedemonte, Bodegas San Martín, Bodega de Sarría, Bodegas Manzanos Campanas, Bodegas Castillo de Monjardín, Bodegas Quaderna Vía, Bodegas Ochoa, Bodega Inurrieta, Bodegas Hacienda Logos, Bodegas Nekeas, Bodegas Pagos de Larrainzar and Bodega Otazu.. Buyers had the opportunity to tour and taste its wines, as well as enjoy the gastronomy of the region and different historical sites.
The balance of the visit has been very positive for both the Navarrese and the Colombians who have described the experience as "a surprising trip", "an avalanche of surprises in every sense". Among other things, they have recognized the mastery of the Designation of Origin in the elaboration of rosé wines, qualifying Navarra as the pantry of rosé wines in Spain. They were also highly satisfied with the white wines, as well as the red wines made with native grape varieties.
Colombia is an emerging market for the D.O. Navarra in which marketing is increasing every year. Navarra wines are making headway in that country where wine consumption is still low but boasts some of the highest growth rates. According to a report by the Spanish Wine Market Observatory (OEMV), 2019 saw an exceptional increase in sales of Spanish wine with denomination of origin in the Latin American country. A rise of 14% in volume and more than 13% in terms of price. In this context, the right conditions are in place for the dynamization of Navarra Designation of Origin wines in Colombia. "We see this market as an opportunity for growth because our wines adapt to the tastes and characteristics of the country's wine consumers. We are optimistic after the professionals' visit."Javier Santafé, managing director of the Regulatory Council of the D.O. Navarra, points out. As part of the international promotion campaign, Navarra is preparing to receive the visit of Peruvian professionals in April in an action of similar characteristics to the one carried out.
