The Regulatory Council accompanies nine wineries from the D.O. Navarra: Inurrieta Winery, Piedemonte Wineries, Escudero Wineries, Manzanos Campanas Wineries, Otazu Winery, Señorío de Andión Wineries, Olimpia Wineries, Pagos de Aráiz Wineries, and Nekeas WineriesTogether, they will be present at the only Japanese trade fair, according to the organization, which focuses on wines, other beverages, and gourmet food. This is the ninth edition of this event, which also offers personalized activities for exhibitors and buyers and expects to receive 77,000 visitors. Wine & Gourmet combines the traditional fair with a program of events including seminars, meetings, appointments, and round tables.

According to a study conducted by ICEX Regarding the Japanese wine market last year, wine is not a traditional drink in the country, but consumption trends continue to rise, and Spanish wines are among the most in-demand by the Japanese. A report from Spanish Wine Market Observatory yields data supporting these conclusions, Japan again increased its wine imports in 2017, and they grew more in value than in volume, led by bottled wine. Specifically, the average price rose 7.8%, the highest since 2008. In this context, Spain is the fourth largest supplier with almost 34 million liters, 12%of the total imported.

Back in the Chartered Community, at the start of the year, the months of January and February have yielded very positive figures for the Navarra Denomination of Origin in the Japanese market. Sales have increased notably, by more than 50% compared to the same period last year. This upward trend has been led by rosé wines. “We have high expectations for Japan for our wines. We believe it is a market with many opportunities, and the good performance of Spanish wines demonstrates this. That's why we decided to bet on participating in Wine & Gourmet Japan to support our wineries and promote the Navarra brand."Jordi Vidal, manager of the Regulatory Council of the D.O.
